Washington, D.C. 20508 Dear Ambassador Schwab: I am writing to support the Section 301 petition against Canada's subsidies to non-Canadian film and television production. Please investigate these horribly unfair subsidies and take this complaint to the World Trade Organization if that is what it takes to end them. My ability to earn a living has been deeply harmed by these subsidies, which are specifically designed to entice American producers to film American stories in Canada and hire Canadian citizens for what would be my job if the project were made here in the U.S. I can compete successfully on a level playing field, but it is impossible for me to compete with a Canadian worker whose salary is made artificially less expensive by extremely generous subsidies. The labor force, talent pool and infrastructure of our world-renowned American film industry is being rapidly destroyed by Canada's unfair trade practices. I fear that unless immediate action is taken, there will soon be no employment opportunities in my field for future generations. The great economic harm caused by Canada's subsidies to film and television production is ongoing. It is a very real attack on our country and not merely a threat. For my sake and for the sake of every American, it is vital that this investigation of Canada's destructive programs go forward so that they may be removed. Canada needs to abide by the rules to which it agreed when it joined the World Trade Organization. Please take action on this critical case.
